Like its earlier online Symposium on the Living Traditions of Ramayana, INDICA is now organizing it’s 40th online Symposium on the Living Traditions of Mahabharata on the 22nd June, 2025.
This Symposium, like the earlier one, shows how the texts like Mahabharata live among Hindus through their rituals, performing and fine arts and other cultural traditions and not just in textual form, compelling cultural sensitivity among those who study these texts.
Expert scholars are going to deliver talks on folk narrative performances of sacred caste narratives or jaati puranas employing folk paintings, folk theatrical worship ritual in villages re-enacting Mahabharata, large scale community folk ritual worship of virtue and valour of Mahbharata characters in a top metro city, Forest dweller ritual theatre of Mahabharata in a north Indian hilly region, household worship of a Mahabharata hero as a household deity, worship of the same hero as a Tantric deity in Nepal, Modern time classical music theatre of Mahabharata, Modern theatrical performances based on Mahabharata and a TV serial of Mahabharata.
