SUMMARY:Dhrupad Workshop – A Musical Journey Towards Silence
DESCRIPTION:Dhrupad is one of the oldest musical traditions in the world\, believed to have originated form the Sama Vedic traditions. The practice of Dhrupad presents frameworks to apply the mind into a state of deep focus very much in line with the principles of the Yog Sutras. Engaging with this musical form is a deeply meditative\, yet dynamic and awakening experience. Characterized by a deep focus on fundamental elements of sound\, it works on building holistic coordination between the body\, breath and mind to create an effective apparatus for musical expression. It is typically seen as a deeply contemplative form of music that emphasizes the beauty of the shades of every musical note in themselves before creating tunes with these notes.\nThis workshop will be a short immersion into exploring sound through some frameworks and practices of Dhrupad\, while also exploring the fundamental connect with the philosophy of Yoga through some of the Yog Sutras. \nKey Focus: \n\nFamiliarise oneself with principles and philosophy of Dhrupad music\nLearn about the Tanpura\, and the Yogic perspective of practicing with the Tanpura\nFundamental practices of singing Dhrupad music that one can take back and integrate into a regular practice\nExploration of some Yog Sutras to deepen the Yogic foundation and relevance of practicing Dhrupad\n\nThe Details of the Retreat are as follows: \nDate & timings: Starts on the evening of Friday\, 01st July\, 4:30 pm and concludes on Sunday\, 03rd July\, 2022\, 4:30 pm. \nVenue: Ritambhara Retreat\, No. 69\, BMTC Layout\, Adjacent to Kammasandra Village\, Lakshmipura Hobli. \nReaching the Venue: The venue is about 22 kms from Majestic Bus Stand and is accessible through Magadi Road and Tumkur Road preferably through own vehicles. The retreat center is very close to ‘Kamadhenu Kshetra’ – a highly popular Raghavendra Swamy temple in last few years. It would take about an hour to reach the retreat venue from the heart of the city. Participants have to make their own arrangements. If any assistance is required Indica Yoga Team will help. \nAccommodation: Only shared accommodation will be provided \nFood: Simple sattvik food with fresh grown vegetables from the farm \nPlease Note:\nThe participants are mandated to fill and submit the registration form. \nAll Participants have to reach the venue by Friday noon as the sessions commence from that evening itself. \nNo children below the age of 18 are allowed in the workshop. \nAccommodation would be provided on a sharing basis.
