SUMMARY:Symposium On Philosophical Contributions Of Sri Madhusudana Saraswati
DESCRIPTION:Sri Madhusudhana Saraswati (c. 1540-1647 CE) was a renowned Indian philosopher\, theologian\, and a versatile commentator from the Advaita Vedanta tradition who was also known for his sublime devotion to Bhagavan Krishna. \nBorn in Unshia village\, Bengal (now in Bangladesh)\, his original name was Kamalanayana\, but was later given the name Madhusudhana after he was initiated into Sannyasa by his Guru Swami Visvesvara Saraswati. \nMadhusudhana Saraswati’s early education came from his father\, Pramod Purandar Acharya\, a Sanskrit scholar. He later studied Navya-Nyaya under prominent teachers of the time such as Hariram Tarkavagish and Mathuranath Tarkavagish in Navadvip. He later moved to Varanasi where he studied Advaita Vedanta and then took to Sannyasa. \nMadhusudhana Saraswati’s philosophical and literary contributions are vast\, with as many as 21 books attributed to him. His most important works include those that enunciate and defend Advaita Siddhanta from the criticisms of Dvaita and other schools\, and those that enunciate Bhakti within the context of Vedanta and harmonize bhaktiyoga with jnanayoga. \nProminent works that defend and enunciate Advaita include Advaita-Siddhi\, Advaita-Manjari\, Advaita-Ratna-Raksana\, and Vedanta-Kalpalatika. Prominent works on Bhakti include Bhagavad-Bhakti-Rasayana and Bhakti-Samanya-Nirupana. He is also known for his extensive and well-articulated commentaries. Prominent commentaries include Gudhartha-Dipika an Bhagavad Gita\, Siddhanta Bindu on Shankaracharya’s Dashasloki\, Sandilya-Sutra-Tika\, and Shivamahimnastotra-Tika. \nHe is especially well known for his work Advaita Siddhi which was written in response to Nyāyāmrta by Vyāsa Tīrtha\, a pontiff of the Mādhva school. Advaita Siddhi also occupies a very unique position in Advaita Sampradaya because through this work\, Sri Madhusudhana Saraswati brought the Navya-Nyaya format of argumentation into Advaita tradition. His commentary on Gita is a monumental work and its name ‘Gudartha Dipika’ is completely justified as Madhusudhana brings out the hidden relationship between Jnana\, Bhakti\, Karma\, and Yoga\, and harmonises them into an integrated teaching on Adhyatma. Among his works on Bhakti\, Bhagavad-Bhakti-Rasayana is particularly significant because through this work Sri Madhusudhana not only establishes Bhakti as an independant Rasa\, he also makes a strong case for Bhakti as the Parama-Purushartha. Together with Gudartha Dipika\, Madhusudhana convincingly establishes Bhakti as an integral part of Vedanta Marga. \nThe Symposium seeks to highlight some of these phenomenal contributions of Sri Madhusudhana Saraswati\, to Hindu philosophy\, especially his contributions to Advaita and Bhakti. \nSCHEDULE \n\n\n\n\nTime\nSpeaker Name\nTitle of Talk\n\n\n9.00 AM-9.10 AM\nNithin Sridhar\nDirector & Chief Curator\, INDICA Moksha\nOpening Remarks\n\n\n9.10 AM-10.00 AM\nDr. Nagaraj Paturi\nKulapati | Vice-Chancellor\, INDICA\nInaugural Talk: Madhusudana Saraswati Swami’s Contribution To IKS\n\n\n10.00 AM-10.30 AM\nVidwan Dr. K S Maheswaran\n Assistant Professor in Vedanta Department\, Madras Sanskrit College\, Mylapore\nअद्वैतसिद्धे: सामान्यपरिचय: – An Introduction To Advaita Siddhi [Sanskrit Talk]\n\n\n10.30 AM-11 AM\nVidwan Vachaspati Joshi Shastri\n Adhyapaka \, Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sankrita Pathashala Dharwad\nसिद्धान्तबिन्दुग्रन्थानुसारेण जीवस्वरूपविमर्शः – An Inquiry Into Nature of Jiva As Per Siddhanta Bindu [Sanskrit Talk]\n\n\n11.00 AM-11.30 AM\nVidwan PV Rajaraman\nTraditional Vidwan and Chief Technology Officer\, Adi Shankara Institute of Engineering and Technology in Kalady\nBreaking The Shackles Of Maya: Madhusudana Saraswati On Gita 7.14\n\n\n11.30 AM – 12.00 PM\nVighnesh Chandrasekaran\n Carnatic Musician and Harikatha Exponent\nMadhusudana Saraswati’s Ananda Mandakini: Profound Devotion And Poetic Brilliance\n\n\n12.00 PM – 12.30 PM\nVidwan Karthik Sharma\nAssistant Professor in Chinmaya Vishwa Vidyapeeth\, Kerala\nअद्वैतसिद्धौ वेदान्तप्रमेयनिष्कर्षः – Precise Presentation of Vedantic Concepts In Advaita Siddhi [Sanskrit Talk]\n\n\n12.30 PM – 1.00 PM\nAditi Banerjee\nNovelist & Attorney\nGudartha Dipika On Jnana\, Bhakti\, And Yoga\n\n\n1.00 PM – 1.30 PM\nDr. Niranjan Saha\nAssistant Professor\, Department of Philosophy\, Kaliachak College (University of Gour Banga)\, West Bengal\nDevotion As Imbibed In Advaita-Siddhanta And Madhusudana Sarasvati\n\n\n1.30 PM – 2.00 PM\nRajaram Venkataramani\n Technocrat by Profession and a Student of Vedanta\nPrema Lakshana Bhakti As Per Shankara And Madhusudana\n\n\n2.00 PM – 2.30 PM\nVidwan Dr. Ganesh Ishvar Bhat\n HOD and Professor in Advaita Vedanta Department\, Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan in Rajiv Gandhi Campus\, Sringeri.\nगूढार्थदीपिकायां साङ्ख्ययोगयोः साधनत्वविवेचनम् – An Analysis Of The Instrumentality Of Sankhya And Yoga In The Gudhartha Deepika [Sanskrit Talk]\n\n\n2.30 PM – 3.00 PM\nVidwan Manikandan Iyer\n Traditional Vidwan and Banker\nBhakti As highest Purushartha As Enunciated In Bhagavad Bhakti Rasayana\n\n\n3.00 PM – 3.30 PM\nVidwan Abhinand Sharma\n Learning and Content Development Professional\nDecoding Moksha: Insights From Vedantakalpalatika\n\n\n3.30 PM – 4.00 PM\nNithin Sridhar\n Director & Chief Curator\, INDICA Moksha\nConclusion And Vote Of Thanks\n\n\n\n
