Indic/Indian/Bharatiya Knowledge Systems (IKS), encompassing knowledge traditions rooted in Vedic, Classical, Folk, and Forest-dwelling communities of Bharat, have gained renewed attention in recent years, particularly since the establishment of the Indian Knowledge Systems Division under the Ministry of Education in 2020. While some perceive IKS as a recent phenomenon, studies into these systems started centuries earlier, shaped by encounters with colonial rulers, their worldview, and educational system. These encounters have historically impacted IKS—relegating some to obscurity, labeling others as unscientific, while transforming a few into alternative knowledge systems.

This conference, organised by INDICA in collaboration with IKS Division – Ministry of Education, highlights the historical context, emergence, evolution, and continued effects of IKS studies, addressing a significant yet relatively unexplored dimension of Bharat’s colonial experience.

Note: *The event is open to all scholars and researchers. Prior registration is required for entry. Please confirm your participation by clicking the “Register” button. Attendees present on both days of the event will be awarded a certificate of participation.

Venue : Pragyan Bhawan Auditorium, AICTE Headquarters, Nelson Mandela Marg, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi-110070.
