Life in Yoga: Celebrating 8th International Day of Yoga
The theme for the 8th International Day of Yoga (2022) is Yoga for Humanity, and we’re celebrating this with talks on three Indian masters who served humanity in the best way possible: through knowledge.
Join us for a three-day series of talks to discover the wisdom and teachings of Swami Vivekananda (talk by Sri Gokulmuthu Narayanaswamy), Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi (talk by Swami Chidananda) and Sri Aurobindo (talk by Dr Vinayachandra Banavathy).
“Leading a Life in Yoga, in the light of Swami Vivekananda” by Sri. Gokulmuthu Narayanaswamy.
Swami Vivekananda coined the motto of Ramakrishna Math as “aatmano mokshaartham jagat hitaaya ca”. This can be taken up as the motto of life by each one of us. This will bring purpose and joy to every moment of our life. This is “Life in Yoga”. In this talk, we will dive deep into the teachings of Swami Vivekananda on how to design our life into a practical implementation of Yoga.
“Leading a Life in Yoga, in the light of Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi” by Swami Chidananda
Shri Ramana Maharshi (1879 thru 1950) endorsed all the four major paths – Karmayoga, Bhaktiyoga, Jnānayoga and Rājayoga – for attaining liberation. He highlighted the erasure of ego as the ultimate outcome of all these spiritual practices. Under Rājayoga, he especially laid emphasis on prānāyāma and prāna-veekshana. While respecting all the eight limbs of Patanjali’s system, he remarked that breath control can bring a high degree of quietude of the mind, which then can facilitate the search for the True Self (ātmā). It is indeed fascinating to learn from Ramana’s teachings about dissolution (laya) and destruction (vināsha) of the mind (of the separate self).
“All Life is Yoga: Sri. Aurobindo’s Vision” by Dr. Vinayachandra Banavathy
Sri Aurobindo begins one of his greatest works, ‘Synthesis of Yoga’ with the chapter titled ‘Life & Yoga’, where he explores in a systematic manner the work and movements of Nature towards a higher synthesis and evolution – a task of high priority for her. Through this exploration he brings out in a Puissant manner that all Life essentially is an unfolding of Yoga at various levels. This talk seeks to present this vision of Sri Aurobindo as part of the theme, ‘Life in Yoga’.
