Prana & Prana Vidya: Understanding the Neuroscience of Pranayama

Neuroscience of Pranayama is an online weekend workshop, where one will learn how modern science validates the ancient breathing practices mentioned in scriptures like Patanjali Yog Sutras.

This workshop will pave the way for both beginner and intermediate learners to integrate their practice of yoga through breath awareness.

This workshop is being conducted by a neurosurgeon who is practicing yoga for more than 2 decades.

Key Focus:

This workshop will help one to refine breathing techniques, understand the science behind the Pranayama practices, using best of modern and ancient knowledge systems.

Workshop content and Schedule as follows:

Week-1 (15 Jan, 2023)

  1. Patanjali on Pranayama
  2. Neuroanatomy and Neurophysiology of Respiration
  3. Basic Breathing exercises
  4. Sound and Breathing – Nadaanusandhana

Week-2 (22 Jan, 2023)

  1. Effect of food on Prana and Pranayama
  2. Effect of Distractions on Prana and Pranayama
  3. Yogic Breathing Exercises
  4. Purak (Inhale) – Kumbhak (Retention) – Rechak (Exhale)

Week-3 (29 Jan, 2023)

  1. Basics of Nadis and Energy centres (Chakras)
  2. Bond between body and mother nature
  3. Antarkumbhak, Bahyakumbhak
  4. Chanting in Pranayama

Week-4 (05 Feb, 2023)

  1. Grading and Progress in Yoga
  2. Precaution to be taken in Pranayama Practice
  3. Introduction to Bandhas
  4. Mudras for Pranayama

Dates: 15th January 2023 to 05th Feburary 2023 (Weekly one classes on every Sundays)
