Relevance Of Kautilya To Today’s Economics

Sriram Balasubramanian and Kushagra Aniket are going to discuss the ideas laid out in Sriram’s latest book, Kautilyanomics For Modern Times. The book draws ideas from Kautilya’s (Chanakya) Arthashastra to be applied to modern economic scenarios like wealth creation, Dharmic capitalism, enforcement of contracts and come up with new policies that are aligned to Bharatiya (Indic) values.

Sriram Balasubramanian

Author

Sriram Balasubramanian is a reputed Economist and Author whose key areas of interest include global macroeconomics, economic trends in emerging markets, new growth models, Indic/Dharmic culture & an innate passion for India’s socio-economic happenings. He has contributed Op-Eds and interviews to publications such as the New York Times, Foreign Policy, Forbes India, Bloomberg, The Hindu, The Times of India, Swarajya among others. He has authored two books ‘Jamba-The Joint Family’ and ‘The Wizards’ (US version). The former was launched by Amish Tripathi, India’s Number 1 selling author and was shortlisted to be at the ‘Third Annual Literary Festival IAAC Festival’ by the Indo-American arts council.

His third book is 'Kautilyanomics for Modern Times' has sold thousands of copies in India and a national bestseller. The book has had multiple re-prints and was the top book on economic history in Amazon India for 2022.

He is an alumnus of Columbia University.

Kushagra Aniket

Moderator

Kushagra Aniket is currently an Economic and Management Consultant based in New York, U.S.A. Kushagra graduated summa cum laude (highest honors) from Cornell University as a Tata Scholar with degrees in economics, mathematics, and statistics. He completed an MBA in finance with Dean’s Honors from Columbia University in New York. Kushagra has received multiple awards in both India and the U.S. for his writings in poetry as well as prose that span three languages: English, Hindi, and Sanskrit. He is also a Sangeet Visharada in Hindustani vocal music.
