The Importance of Ayurvedic Treatises

Ayurveda has its foundations in ancient treatises of extreme importance and usefulness. But what does it look like? and what are its contents and teachings? In this session, we will mainly visit Aṣṭāṅgahṛdaya, an Ayurvedic treatise, to reveal some of its characteristics, doctrines and knowledge.

Dr. Paulo Meira

Professor of Ayurveda & Sanskrit, University of Lisbon

Paulo Meira is a Professor of Ayurveda and Sanskrit at the School of Arts and Humanities of University of Lisbon and other institutions. He is also an Ayurvedic Practitioner doing his consultations in Lisbon and Torres Vedras (Portugal). His Ph.D. is in Sanskrit (Ayurveda) from Tilak Maharashtra University (Pune, India) and he completed the Ayurvedic Medicine Course, later specializing in Ayurvedic Dietetics and Nutrition. He is a researcher in the area of ayurvedic plants (Dravyaguna) and also of Ayurveda in the treatise of Garcia de Orta. He’s the author of several articles and books. He has been doing Yoga regularly since 1999.

Sophia Ann French is the Editor & Curator at the Indica Center for Yoga Studies and Indica Center for Ayurveda Studies. She has been practising hatha yoga for over 15 years and she is a regular practitioner of Vipassana. She is also studying Vedanta with the Chinmaya International Foundation, she is a certified Sivananda Yoga teacher and was the founder and editor of India's first online magazine on Yoga and Vedanta.
