The Judicial Process in Dharmaśāstra-s: A Comparative Study in the Contemporary Context

The INDICA Center for Indic Studies in Law & Justice (CISLJ) presents a conversation with Dr Nilam Yadav on the 4th of September 2022 at 1900 hrs. This conversation intends to put the spotlight on some aspects of her book धर्मशास्त्रीय न्यायिक-प्रक्रिया : वर्तमान संदर्भ में एक तुलनात्मक अध्ययन published in 2014 by Chaukhambha Orientalia. This conversation with Dr Yadav will primarily be in Hindi and will include a focus on the comparative study (तुलनात्मक अध्ययन) aspect of her research. Dr Yadav’s book is likely to be of interest for those concerned with topics such as धर्मशास्त्र की परम्परा, न्यायिक प्रतिक्रिया एवं उसके अंग, व्यवहारप्रतिक्रिया का अनुप्रयोग, धर्मशास्त्रीय दण्ड संहिता, all of which are also the titles of the chapters of her book.

डॉ. नीलम यादव

Author and Teacher

Dr Nilam Yadav is presently working as a Faculty of Sanskrit at Rajkiya Balika Inter College, Unnao, in Uttar Pradesh, India. Hailing from a modest rural family in the Banda district of Uttar Pradesh, she completed her PhD at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) under the guidance of Professor Santosh Kumar Shukla. She is the author of the book धर्मशास्त्रीय न्यायिक-प्रक्रिया: वर्तमान संदर्भ में एक तुलनात्मक अध्ययन (which can be roughly translated as The Judicial Process in Dharmaśāstra-s: A Comparative Study in the Contemporary Context) which was published in 2014 by Chaukhambha Orientalia and she has published over 5 research papers on related topics. As a Faculty, she is engaged not just in teaching Sanskrit to students in the age group of 16-18 but is also engaged in research and in the generation of interest in the Sanskrit language and its literature.

डॉ. नीलम यादव, वर्तमान समय में राजकीय बालिका इण्टर कालेज, उन्नाव (उत्तरप्रदेश) में प्रवक्ता (संस्कृत) के पद पर कार्यरत हैं । आपका जन्म उत्तर प्रदेश के बाँदा जिले के अत्यन्त ही साधारण ग्रामीण परिवार में हुआ । स्नातक की शिक्षा इलाहाबाद विश्वविद्यालय, प्रयागराज से ग्रहण करने के पश्चात् परास्नातक की शिक्षा जवाहरलाल नेहरू विश्वविद्यालय, नई दिल्ली से ग्रहण करने का अवसर प्राप्त हुआ । अध्ययन करते समय ही धर्मशास्त्र में रुचि होने के कारण और प्रो. संतोष कुमार शुक्ल महोदय की प्रेरणा से “धर्मशास्त्रीय न्यायिक-प्रक्रिया : वर्तमान संदर्भ में एक तुलनात्मक अध्ययन” विषय पर शोध कार्य किया । यह शोध कार्य चौखम्भा ओरियाण्टालिया, नई दिल्ली से २०१४ में प्रकाशित हो चुका है । धर्मशास्त्रीय विषयों पर ५ से अधिक शोध निबंध प्रतिष्ठित जर्नल्स में प्रकाशित हो चुके हैं । संस्कृत की शिक्षिका के रूप में प्रारम्भिक स्तर से ही छात्राओं को संस्कृत सिखाने के साथ ही संस्कृत भाषा और साहित्य में रुचि उत्पन्न करने और शोध कार्यों में संलग्न हैं ।

Megh Kalyanasundaram

Megh Kalyanasundaram is an Indian citizen, an alumnus of ISB, with close to nine years of lived experience in China. His experience includes stints as a Market Leader at a Global Fortune 40 firm, as Head of Business Development at a leading Indian talent development multinational and a term on the Board of a Shanghai-based not-for-profit. His academic research interests and 20+ papers span aspects of ancient Indian chronology, Indian Knowledge Systems, Landscape in Indic texts, Ancient Indian Jurisprudence, Ideas of India and Philosophy. His research-based compositional Sanskrit album Bhārata and her Kāśmīra has been recognised and listed by the Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts (IGNCA). In 2022, he was invited by the National Museum Institute (NMI) to present the research that underpinned his album in a seminar organised by NMI to generate content for a new museum coming up related to Jammu and Kashmir.
