Breadcrumb Trails of Yogic Knowledge

In this presentation, Teune will take you on a short journey, exploring the hidden clues that can be found in your everyday postural yoga class. Specifically, from a non-academic point of view and from a perspective outside of India. There are breadcrumbs of knowledge everywhere, hidden in plain sight. Simply looking at the denomination of your favorite style of yoga, the names of the poses and the mantras that accompany your sessions, for example, are great starting points. What are — to many of us practitioners — foreign names and words at first, can reveal layers of knowledge once we try to find out more about them. When the yoga enthusiast continues to enquire into the meaning of terms heard in class, a process of inward investigation is started which can expose a refreshing self-view rooted in the Indic Knowledge Systems, universal truth that is liberating and enlightening, revealing our greater reality.

Teune van der Wildt

Ashtanga Yoga Teacher

Teune van der Wildt has been teaching yoga for over 15 years and is also a sought-after massage therapist. Teune has a particularly hands-on mentality. After graduating high-school he initially had no interest in further studies, and worked as a cook in high-end restaurants for 10 years. Once he discovered yoga, he found his true passion and has worked rigorously to train himself at it since. He continues to make regular trips to practice yoga under Sharathji, the grandson of Vidwan Pattabhi Jois in South India. He learned Thai Massage under Homprang Chaleekanha, one of Thailand's most renowned healers. As a Level 2 authorised SYC/KPJAYI teacher, he heads a Mysore program in Antwerp, Belgium. He is a trainee of Veda chanting with Shantala Sriramaiah, and has a keen interest in Sanskrit. Besides being trained in āsana, Teune has dug deeper into the subject of Yoga, a.o. through the teachings of the late Prof. Georg Feuerstein. On his first trip to India he was introduced to authentic Indian philosophy, mantras and Sanskrit by Lakshmisha Bhat, whom he has hosted in Antwerp several times. Teune has had the honour to translate and publish guru Sharath R. Jois’ yoga manual from English to Dutch.
