  3. Bringing Indic authenticity to writing in English. This will be an experiential workshop where we will put into practice what we discuss.

Each participant will have multiple opportunities to share pieces of their writing, including in small groups, and to discuss current writing projects to receive encouragement and constructive feedback in a supportive and inclusive environment. Indica Books Author Q&A with Arjun Singh Kadian, author of Land of the Gods: The Story of Haryana

Indica Books presents Author Q&A with Arjun Singh Kadian

Book Discussion – ” Land of the Gods: The Story of Haryana ”

About the Book

An ambitious book that engages with a region and people who have defined the subcontinent for over five millennia.

The great war of right versus wrong was fought here. It was from this land that Lord Krishna’s wisdom—the universal truth—spread across the globe. It is the cradle of the ancient Indus-Saraswati civilization, with the sacred river Saraswati, glorified in the Rig Veda, flowing in its full might across the plains and onward.

Kings and emperors used this place to expand and consolidate their empires. The East India Company, and later the British Crown, played their games here, manipulating and managing their colonial affairs. The much-ridiculed ‘Aaya Ram, Gaya Ram’ political epithet originated here. This land gave the nation a number of stalwarts of the Independence movement. And, it became the address for a cocktail of regional and national political manoeuvrings, impacting national politics in major ways.

In his debut book, Land of the Gods: The Story of Haryana, Arjun Singh Kadian takes the readers through a fascinating journey of Haryana which offers new insights and delightful nuggets.

Indica Books Author Q&A: HINDU LOVE STORIES by Aditi Benerjee

Indica Books presents Author Q&A with Aditi Bannerjee

Book Discussion – ” Hindu Love Stories: Dharmically Ever After ”

About the Book

Not your typical romance!
What is the meaning and purpose of love?

We think of love stories as those that end in happily-ever-after. But thousands of years ago, in ancient India, love was understood in a different way — as one of the four aims of life, as a means for spiritual growth, as a celebration of the play of the Divine. As something profound, beautiful, and sometimes elusive.

The sacred texts of Hinduism are populated with astonishing stories of love between gods and goddesses, between mortals and celestial beings, between sages and saints and ordinary humans. Not just ancient lore, these iconic stories have come to define one of the oldest continuous living civilizations and cultures in the world.

This book takes more than 25 stories from the Itithaasa and Puranas, the epic literature of ancient India, as well as stories from history that exemplify the many different aspects and dimensions of love. These stories were transmitted over thousands of years until they became part of the memory of a people. These stories teach us how to find love, how to rise through love, and how to become better through love.

Here you will find —

Stories of the apsaras, the female spirits of the waters and the clouds, exquisite dancers as elegant as they are beautiful;
Stories of rishis and rishikas, the sage, wise ones who find their balance between asceticism and earthly pleasures;
Stories of kings and queens, scholars and forest dwellers, demons and deities;
Stories that traverse death and span different worlds;
Stories that may be bittersweet, joyous, humorous, and tragic — but all stories that point us to Dharma.

There may not always be a happily-ever-after — but there can always be a Dharmically-ever-after!

IBC Author Q&A with Prof. Alok Kumar, author of ‘Ancient Hindu Science’

Its Impact on the Ancient and Modern Worlds

To understand modern science as a coherent story, it is essential to recognize the accomplishments of the ancient Hindus.

They invented our baseten number system and zero that are now used globally, carefully mapped the sky and assigned motion to the Earth in their astronomy, developed a sophisticated system of medicine with its mindbody approach known as Ayurveda, mastered metallurgical methods of extraction and purification of metals, including the socalled Damascus blade and the Iron Pillar of New Delhi, and developed the science of selfimprovement that is popularly known as yoga. In the modern era, thinkers and scientists as diverse as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Johann Gottfried Herder, Carl Jung, Max Müller, Robert Oppenheimer, Erwin Schrödinger, Arthur Schopenhauer, and Henry David Thoreau have acknowledged their debt to ancient Hindu achievements in science, technology, and philosophy.

Ancient Hindu Science is well documented with remarkable objectivity, proper citations, and a substantial bibliography. It highlights the achievements of this remarkable civilization through painstaking research of historical and scientific sources. The style of writing is lucid and elegant, making the book easy to read. This book is perfect for all students and others interested in the developments of science throughout history and among the ancient Hindus, in particular.
